Museet är beläget på historisk mark vid ett gammalt krigsflygfält från andra världskriget och är delvis beläget i gamla lokaler från den tiden.

Optands flygfält anlades under hotet om ett anfall mot Sverige i slutet av 1930 talet.
Alla byggnader och värn är fortfarande intakta vilket innebär att besökare kan vandra runt i omgivningen och känna sig förflyttad tillbaka till den tiden.

Det finns totalt 10 hangarer, varav 7 ägs av museet. Alla hangarer kan efter förfrågan bli tillgängliga såväl ut som invändigt för de som vill se hur dessa är konstruerade med portar och vinschar.

Totalt finns det 10 hangarer i originalskick samt 15 värn uppbyggda av jordmassor. Anläggningen är uppbyggd av medlemmar i  Svensk Flyghistorisk förening Jämtland Härjedalen som är en regionavdelning av riksföreningen med samma namn.

Museet har funnits sedan 1994 och har under den tiden vuxit i  storlek för varje år. I dag har museet drygt 30 flygplan och helikoptrar med en blandning av civila och militära typer. En röd tråd är att alla flygplan har anknytning till Jämtland – Härjedalen. Här finns fem Viggar av olika typer samt två kabindelar från JA37. Kanske är vi det enda museet som kan visa upp dessa flygplan inomhus. Just nu pågår två renoveringsprojekt. Dels en Beech18R, Tp4 som fanns stationerat på F4 som ambulansflygplan. Just detta exemplar har dock aldrig funnits på F4 men kommer att byggas upp som ett ambulansflygplan från F4. Det andra renoveringsobjektet är en J32B som flugits vid 2.div F4 mellan 1966-70, för att därefter byggas om till målflygplan och flygas vid målflygdivisionen på Malmen fram till 1997. Flygplanet kommer att återuppbyggas till det skick det hade under sin aktiva tid på F4.

Modellflyg är även det en viktig del av vår flyghistoria här finns modeller av olika typer: Radio-, segel-, gummimotor-, plast- och skala modeller av riktiga flygplan.
Mustang, B17 m.fl. Totalt kan ni på museet se ca 100 modeller.

Lottamuseet är inrymt i en matsal från andra världskrigets dagar.  Där har Lottorna i Jämtland iordningställt en utställning om Lottornas historia från 1920 talet och fram till dagens Lottarörelse.

The museum was completed in the fall of 1994 and opened for visitors on May 1, 1995. It is located on historic land, on an old war airfield from the Second World War and is partly located in old premises from that time.
Optand’s airfield was built under the threat of an attack on Sweden in the late 1930s. All the buildings and defences are still intact, which means that visitors can wander around the surroundings and feel transported back to that time.
A total of 10 hangars from the WW2 era (of which 7 are owned by the museum) all hangars can be accessed on request both externally and internally for those who want to see how these are constructed with doors and winches. In total there are 10 hangars in original condition and 15 pcs. defences built up of earth masses. The facility is built by members of the Swedish Aviation History Association Jämtland Härjedalen, which is a regional branch of the national association with the same name.
We have been around since 1994 and during that time have grown in size every year. Today, the museum has just over 30 aircraft with a mix of civil and military types. A common thread is that all aircraft have a connection to Jämtland and Härjedalen. There are five SAAB 37 Viggens of different versions at the museum, and two cockpit sections.
Right now, two restoration projects are underway, firstly a Beech18R, Tp4 that was stationed on F4 as an ambulance aircraft (this particular example has never been on F4 but will be rebuilt as an ambulance aircraft from F4). The other object is a SAAB J32B Lansen which was flown by 2.div F4 between 1966-70. After that period it was converted to carry out electronic jamming missions and flown by the “Målflygdivisionen” at Malmen until 1997.
When that unit was disbanded, the aircraft flew to F4 and came by land transport to the museum. The aircraft will be rebuilt to the configuration it had during its active time on F4. This project is now finished, except for an external repaint.
Model aviation is also an important part of our aviation history, here are models of various types, radio, sails, rubber engine, plastic and scale models of real aircraft, in total, you can see around 100 models at the museum.
The Lotta Museum is housed in a dining room and field kitchen from the days of the Second World War, the word ”Lotta” means female conscripts that served with the military in various duties. The local Lotta-organization have bulit a nice little exhibition i the original barack from WW2-days, which shows their history from those Days.
The Jämtlands flyg och lottamuseum is located at the Optand airfield and is situated together with the Teknikland museum.
